I was on my feet practically the whole day cooking! In the morning, I made pancakes and crepes with Betty Crocker instant pancake mix. Well, I am no pro and I don't have a skillet or a griddle. I used a flat pan to cook the pancakes. Hence, my pancakes are thin and rather dried up. They looked horrible but thankfully, the taste was good (I added chocolate chips and cheese in a few of the pancakes hee hee).
I made crepes too using the same instant mix because my little bro still wasn't full even after eating like 4 pancakes. He has a big stomach damn! The crepes are kinda dry and I have no idea why. I followed the recipe exactly! But I added a teaspoon of vanilla essence though haha. Still, I don't think a teaspoon of liquid can make my crepes dry...
Anyway, I checked the ingredients stated on the package and saw that Betty Crocker uses bleached flour. Wth, they really should be using unbleached flour!!
I took a break by watching the diary of a wimpy kid, funny show and touching at the ending. Then, back to cooking. I made salmon in orange juice! Yum! It might sound weird to you, but seriously the orange juice somehow added taste! Yummy!
So here's the recipe. It takes only around 20 minutes to prepare if you're a fast-mover.
1. Defreeze the salmon 2 hours before you start. How much salmon meat depends on how much you eat. 1 fillet per person should be enough.
2. Squeeze the juice out of 1/2 orange, the orange shouldn't be too sweet nor too sour. Pour the juice into a deep metal plate or tray. Add around 1 tablespoon of soy sauce or more if you like it to be salty.
3. Slice the salmon with a thickness of 1 finger, its length is up to you. Just cut it to fit your mouth.
4. Put the salmon into the deep plate/tray of orange juice and soy sauce. Try to make sure the salmon is completely soaked in the juice, look for the right plate/tray size. Leave it marinated.
5. Prepare vegetables. Whatever you want. You need a balance diet ;)
6. Steam or bake the tray of salmon and juice for around 10-15 minutes. If you're planning to bake it, then make sure you heat the oven at 200 degree celcius for around 10 minutes before you start. Bake it at that temperature. You may add thick vegetables such as tomatoes or carrot into the salmon and juice. If you want sauce, you can try making orange juice yogurt dressing for your veggie (if you plan to have your veggie raw or tasteless). All you need is plain yogurt, orange juice and soy sauce. Mix them together in the ratio of 4 : 2 : 1. Say for instance, for 1 person's serving, 2 tbsp plain yogurt, 1 tbsp orange juice and 1/2 tbsp soy sauce should be enough. *It's better to use pure orange juice, the one freshly squeezed from the fruit. Processed orange juice doesn't taste the same, but you can try. That's all for now. I'll be making white chocolate parfait and crumbles soon! Cheers! Yours truly just spent days trying to figure out the basics of HTML just to help out with improving my former high school library blog. But from the so little that I know, I could only make modifications on other people's layouts. Pathetic, I know. At least, I kept the creator's name on the blog page, so it's not really stealing. Then, finally after I'm done, I thought, why not do my own blog too? Hence, the new layout you are looking at right now. I hope you think that it's better than the previous.
Anyway, just yesterday, I baked a supposed-to-be super moist chocolate cake using Betty Crocker instant cake mix. I expected a really chocolatey, moist, fudgy cake with super sweet icing, but the end product was not sweet, not moist (but not the dry type where you can get choke by swallowing too much cake) and the chocolate taste wasn't strong enough. Chocolate lovers will be disappointed. But health thinkers will love it since it's not sweet and used sunflower oil instead of butter. Just to make it more delicious, I sliced the cake horizontally into half and spread cookies and icing in between. Now it looks like a gigantic chocolate cookie sandwich with cream in the middle :/
Speaking of health, I went for a sinful buffet dinner last night, where I had 4 scoops of ice cream, 3 fruit tarts, and so much meat. I think they all totaled to 1000 calories, which I will have no choice but to spend these few days burning off. There's this exercise called Body Combat I thought I should introduce. The workout takes around 45 mins, just follow the video. You will sweat a lot so just make sure you do it in an open room where there is good air-flow or else it will get really steamy. Good luck trying! I estimate the whole workout to burn at least 320 calories. You could burn more if you punch harder and kick faster.
